Lee W. Lizer
Lee Whitacre Lizer, 61, of Winchester, VA, died Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Spring Arbor of Winchester. Mr. Lizer was born in 1952 in Winchester, VA, the son of the late Charles Edward “Ed” and Hilda Whitacre Lizer. He was a property developer, builder, and owner of Brookfield Corporate Apartments. Mr. Lizer was a 1970 graduate of James Wood High School and a 1974 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He was an active member of the Gainesboro Ruritan Club for 36 years, and a former board member of the Woodlawn Cemetery Association. He was active in community service including building an addition for the Gainesboro Fire Hall and renovating the Redland Community Center.
He married Diana L. Perry, the love of his life, on November 23, 2007 in Winchester, Virginia and was blessed by her care in his time of need.
Surviving with his wife are, a step-son, William A. Martin of Aptos, California; two step-daughters: Darla L. Nelson and Leslie A. Martin, both of Winchester, Virginia; sister LuAnn L. Tarren of Midlothian, VA, and brothers C. Joseph Lizer of Winchester, VA and Dr. James Robert Lizer of Cross Junction, VA. He is fondly remembered by Kristina and Joseph Hackel, with whom he had a special bond, and Walden Kerns, a close friend of the Lizer family. Also, he is survived by nine nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Doug Frazier officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whitacre. The family will receive friends at the home of Bob Lizer, 220 Red Oak Road, Cross Junction following interment.
Pallbearers will be John Breeden, George Nedwards, Jonathan Lizer, Benjamin Lizer, Cortland Lizer, Noah Lizer, Nicholas Lizer, Bailey Tarren, and Jacob Tarren.
