Lawrence Ross “Larry” Ambrogi, 83, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at Winchester Medical Center.

Larry was born in 1937 in Washington, DC, son of the late Lawrence and Isabella Ambrogi. He graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia. Larry continued his education at Randolph Macon College, earning a Bachelor’s degree, and a Juris Doctor degree from American University in Washington, DC. He was Commonwealth Attorney for Frederick County, Virginia, retiring in 2007 after 38 years of service. Larry was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge and the Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Winchester.

Larry married Carole Harper on May 26, 1962 in Rockville, Maryland.

Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Elaine A. Popkin (Keith) of Wilmington, North Carolina and a son, Lawrence B. Ambrogi of Winchester, Virginia; five grandchildren, Michele Ambrogi, Michael Ambrogi (Stephanie), Thomas, Cordon, and Spencer Witherington; four great-grandchildren, Lillian, Alice, Everly, and Elliott Ambrogi; and sister, Karen Moore of Statesville, North Carolina.

All services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s memory to Greenwood Volunteer Fire and Rescue, 809 Greenwood Road, Winchester, Virginia 22602 or to Dakotas Dream Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 1814, Winchester, Virginia 22604.

I had the pleasure to work for Larry "Masa" for 24 years, 11 years as Commonwealth Attorney and then 13 more years when he just called on me when he needed something. He was the kindest, friendliest, and funniest man - but most of all he cared about people and he cared about me. I will miss his "drop by" visits, and my calls just to make sure things were going okay, or to get the monthly gossip. Sorry to learn about Larry untimely death. He was one of my favorite characters and funny friends and I will miss him.
