Laverne A. White, a devoted mother and grandmother, passed away after an illness on July 25, 2026, just five days shy of her 86th birthday.

Laverne built a career in public service in Middlesex County, New Jersey. She began her professional journey in the county elections office and later transitioned to the Middlesex County Superior Court of New Jersey. There, she served with distinction as a court clerk, most notably clerking for the late Honorable Robert P. Figarotta.

As a young girl, Laverne loved to sing and continued performing until illness took her singing voice.

Her family loved boating and belonged to the Raritan River Boat Club, where her father, William Johnson, served as commodore. He co-owned a boatyard, and Laverne regularly helped maintain the family boat. She also earned her captain’s license.

In 2000, Laverne retired and relocated to West Virginia, where she and Earle built their home and enjoyed a well-deserved retirement. She spent her golden years surrounded by nature, pouring her energy into two of her greatest passions: meticulously tracing her family’s history through genealogy and caring for her property.

She was known for her quick wit, vibrant personality, and the warmth she brought to every room.

Laverne is survived by her loving daughters, Teresa Baran and her husband, Walter, of Huntsville, Alabama, and Jackie Kelsch of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. She is also survived by her sisters, Carol Richter and Barbara Herman, of New Jersey. She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren: Nicholas Baran of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Derek Baran and his wife, Brooke, of Huntsville, Alabama; Brianna Baran of Granger, Indiana; and Jamie Kelsch of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her partner, Earle Swann; her beloved son, James White; her father, William R. Johnson; and her mother, Anna J. Beldring Johnson.

Laverne’s memory will live on in the stories she shared, the family she loved, and the warmth she brought to those around her.

In accordance with her wishes, services will be private with the family.
