Laura Mae Stewart, 90 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center.
Laura Mae was born in 1934 in Midland, VA, the daughter of the late Hallie and Laura Mae Grimes. She absolutely loved playing Bingo and the slot machines. Laura Mae was very attached to all her collectibles from the foreign countries that she and her husband lived in such as Germany, Ethiopia, Sudan, Greece, Liberia, Philippines, American Samoa. She loved listening to old country music such as George Jones, Patsy Cline, John Denver, Kitty Wells. Laura Mae loved the Christmas Season, always decorating her entire home and she enjoyed giving gifts to everyone. She was known for her Macaroni and Potato Salad, and it was loved by her grandchildren.
She married Edwin Stewart on September 16, 1961, in Warrenton, VA and he preceded her in death on December 6, 2023.
Laura Mae adored her family, the mainstay of her life. She is survived by her children, Karen Jean Presgraves, Vickie Lynn Plum (Frank), Edwin Allen Stewart (Elizabeth), Thomas Michael Stewart (Rick), grandchildren, Karen Marie (Kenneth), Wayne Jr. (Adriana), Linda Jean, David Wayne, Steven Michael, Amber Suzanne, Cody Allen, Casie Lynn, Philip Edwin (Amanda), Eric Andrew (Heather) and Lauren Elizabeth, sisters, Ruby Myers, Linda Oatman and her brother, Chancey Grimes and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Laura Mae is preceded in death by her sisters, Molly, Dorothy, Betty and Anna and her brothers, Sam, Delmore and Eden.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 12pm with a service to follow at 1pm all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park. Pastor Alan Morrison will officiate.
