Kurian Attasseril Abraham, age 82, of Stephenson, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born on June 26, 1943, in Keezhvaipur, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala, India, he was the beloved son of the late Easow Abraham Attasseril and Mariamma (Vakayil) Abraham. Kurian pursued higher education with dedication, earning his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kerala and his Master’s degree from Saugar University. He spent his professional career inspiring others as a lecturer.
A man of deep faith and community spirit, Kurian was an active member of St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church, Keezhvaipur and Detroit Mar Thoma Church, Michigan. He was also actively engaged with Immanuel Mar Thoma Church, Virginia. Notably, he dedicated his time and leadership during the construction of Detroit Mar Thoma Church, Michigan.
On June 24, 1972, he was united in marriage to his devoted wife, Raichel Pulikallumpurathu (Chacko) Kurian, at St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church, Keezhvaipur. Together, they shared nearly 54 years of marriage, family, and faith.
He is survived by his loving wife, Raichel; his three children, Ajit Kurian of Roswell, Georgia, Anita Kurian of Stephenson, Virginia, and Ajeena Kurian of St. Charles, Ilinois; eight cherished grandchildren; three sisters, Aleyamma Mathai, Mariamma Kurien, and Susamma Mathew; and one brother, Thampy Abraham. He was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest brother, Easow Abraham.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 20th, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Immanuel Mar Thoma Church, located at 41865 Destiny Drive, Aldie, VA 20105. The funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM at the church, with Rev. Shiju Robert officiating.
Following the services in Virginia, Kurian will be repatriated to Kerala, India for final rites. Burial services will take place at St. Thomas Mar Thoma Syrian Church Cemetery in Keezhvaipur, Mallappally, Kerala, India on Saturday, June 27th, 2026.
