Kitty May “MeMe” Bonnett Hockman, 98, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Hockman was born October 2, 1916 at “Hillbrook” in South Boston, Virginia, the daughter of the late William F. and Aileen Bonnett. She was a graduate of John Handley High School, Class of 1934. Cheerleader at John Handley, captain of the inter-scholastic girls’ basketball team, softball team member, Glee Club, Apple Blossom pageant performer and voted “biggest flirt” for her graduating class. Mrs. Hockman was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Hedgebrook Farm. She was published in the Southeastern United Dairy Association recipe booklet for her famous macaroni and cheese. She served as a fundraiser for the American Lung Association as well as serving on the American Cancer Society Board. She loved her church and church family teaching twenty-five years as a Sunday school teacher at Cork Street Christian Church. MeMe was past president of Christian Women’s Fellowship and served as Secretary and the national representative for Virginia for CWF. She was a long time member and past president of Women’s Civic League and a member of the Glen Burnie Garden Club, Virginia Horticultural Society Auxiliary, Republican Club, volunteer at Winchester Medical Center gift shop for 30 years and member of the Agriculture Committee for the Chamber of Commerce for six years. She was the oldest member of the Opequon Presbyterian Church serving on the Long Range Planning Committee, Flock Leader and instrumental in organizing the beginning of “Happy Days” serving as president. She was a true Southern lady who loved her family, friends, church and the Shenandoah Valley in which we live and especially her beloved “Hedgebrook Farm”.
She married Robert Edward Hockman on November 29, 1935, in Winchester, Virginia. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1989.
Surviving are her daughters, Kitty Hockman-Nicholas and Robin Eddy and former son-in-law, John, all of Winchester, grandchildren, Jackie Nicholas Hott and husband, John, Shannon Bonnet Nicholas Triplett and significient other, Richard Molden, Amanda Eddy Keaton and husband, Thomas, Kelly Eddy Fernandez and husband, Ben, Robert Dulany Eddy and wife, Rita; great grandchildren, Megan Marie Triplett, Nicholas Robert Hott, Griffin Samuel Hott, Amber Kristine Fernandez, Benjamin Robert Fernandez, Eli Thomas Keaton, Amelia Bonnet Keaton, Olivia Dulany Eddy and Jacob Thomas Eddy. Along with extended family, Alice Bradley Grier, Mary Elson, Ginger Perry, Kellee Walters, John V. Eddy, Jude Sparrow, Missy Tomblin Moses, Marty Profitt, David Carbaugh and Family, Robert and Susan Clayton,Jan Carrier, Janice Edwards, Nita Mitchell, Ross Mitchell, Mary Ann Layman, Larry Layman, Sue Barnsley, Headley Barnsley, Janet and Earl Riddick, Elaine Dennison and Ann E. Mamon.
Love the people God gave you, because he will need them back one day.
Her son, Robert William Hockman, son-in-law, Richard Nicholas and brother, William F. Bonnett, Jr., preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be conducted March 28, 2015 at 11:00 am at Opequon Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be John V. Eddy, Robert D. Eddy, Thomas Keaton, John Hott, Bill Bayliss, Ben Fernandez, Jude Sparrow and Richie Molden.
