A Celebration of Life

Kimberly Ann James, age 56, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center.

Kim was born on March 1, 1970, in Virginia, the daughter of the late Edgar Wiles Blackburn and Murray McKnight. She was the owner and operator of Six Star Events LLC, where she shared her talents through catering. A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Kim was an ordained minister and an active member of Radical Change Ministries.

Beyond her professional life, Kim found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved cooking, gardening, reading, and music, and she could often be found working on a puzzle.

She married Brandon James on August 18, 1990, in Winchester, Virginia.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Haley Tyler James of Winchester, VA; her mother, Murray Blackburn McKnight; her “son of the heart,” Daniel Victor (Cary) of North Carolina; and her three beloved grandchildren, Ainsley, Becklyn, and Fenix Victor. She is also survived by her stepsisters, Missy Barber and Chrissy Lessey, and her stepbrother, John Woodcock, Jr and stepmother, and Katherine Hopper.

She was preceded in death by her father and her stepparent, Taylor Marshall.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Puesta Del Sol, 392 Rudolph Lane, Yellow Springs, WV 26865.

Heartfelt condolences

I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Mrs. Kim. She was a beautiful and compassionate person who embraced everyone she met with open arms. Her memory will live on, and may God provide comfort to her grieving family during this difficult time.

All of us at Blue Ridge Wildlife Center will miss Kim so much. She was much more than our caterer, she was a dear friend. And she will be sorely missed, by all the staff, the ambassadors, and all those she fed.

I know that it's a cliché but, there was only one Kim. I could say there is no other human that could hold a torch to her level of confidence and diligent dedication to whatever task was next on her agenda, and that would be solid truth. Kim helped lead a couple of benefits with a small group of friends and she was our rock throughout that effort. Whom ever got to meet Kim, would never forget her. Kim welded such a positive spin and get it done attitude that left any possibility of failure in the dust. I loved her ways, her voice, her jolliness, and her sincerity. She would never admit it, but she truly was a matriarch lady. You don't need to look far to see the family bonds and the forever friendships she created.
