Kathy J. Wortman
Kathy Jean (Buracker) Wortman, 55, of Stephens City, VA, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014 at her home with her family by her side. After a courageous, four year battle with cancer, it was time for her to walk with the Lord.
Mrs. Wortman was born in 1958 in Fauquier County, VA, the daughter of the late Louis H. and Audrey E. Buracker. She was a graduate of James Madison High School in Vienna, VA, Class of 1976 and was a school bus driver for Frederick County Public Schools for 29 years. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed reading and driving her routes on the school bus. It was not unheard of to hear Kathy singing away at any point in time, even on her school buses.
Mrs. Wortman married Rodney Jay Wortman on February 3, 1979 in Vienna, VA.
Surviving with her husband are two children, Julie A. Wert and husband, John, of Stephens City, VA and Brian S. Wortman and wife, Crystalin, of Clinton, UT; five grandchildren, Trent Wert, Sarah Wert and Blake Wert of Stephens City, VA and Hailee Wortman and Brooklin Wortman of Clinton, UT; two sisters, Bonnie J. Vinson and husband, Mel, of Norfolk, VA and Brenda L. Bernhardt of San Antonio, TX; two brothers, Larry M. Buracker and wife, June, of Bedford, VA and Rodney M. Buracker of Vienna, VA, and her beloved dog, “Little Bit.”
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home with Chaplain Kitty Hahn-Campanella officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Trent Wert, T.J. Wortman, Ryan Armistead, Reggie Armistead, Jay Neff and Simon McGurk.
