Kathryn Ann Macpherson
Kathryn Ann Lynch Macpherson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, of Winchester, VA, formerly of Moneta, VA and Westfield, NJ died January 17, 2014 after a brief illness. Born February 26, 1928 in Detroit, MI, Kay grew up in Centerline and Grosse Pointe, MI.
She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1949 with a degree in education and where she was an active member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She taught first and second grade for several years. On June 16, 1951, she married Monroe D. Macpherson. The early years of their marriage were spent in Cleveland, OH, Beloit, WI and MI and in 1956, they settled in Westfield, NJ, where they lived until 1992. Kay was instrumental in the founding of the Miller-Cory historical foundation and was actively involved in the Presbyterian Church in Westfield. In 1992, they moved to Moneta, VA at Smith Mountain Lake where they spent 12 years enjoying the beauty of the Virginia mountains and the sparkling waters of the lake. They moved to Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury in Winchester, VA in 2004, splitting their time between Winchester and the Lake.
Kay is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Monroe Macpherson of Winchester, VA, son, Douglas and daughter-in-law, Laurie, of Fairfax, VA, son David and daughter-in-law, Julie of Wytheville, VA, daughter, Pamela Brouder of Fairfax, VA, grandsons, Evan Macpherson and Cameron Chase of Wytheville, VA, Ryan Macpherson of Arlington, VA, Graham Brouder of Harrisonburg, VA, granddaughters, Jennifer Brouder and Kailey Macpherson of Fairfax, VA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Trinity Ecumenical Church, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, VA 24121. A memorial service is being planned for February 2014.
