Julian H. Buncutter
Julian Henry Buncutter, 88, of Winchester, VA, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center.
Mr. Buncutter was born in 1921 in Albin, VA, the son of the late Robert E. and Ada S. Buncutter. He owned Buncutter Oil Co. and Buncutter Tire Co. in Winchester for over 40 years. He was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church and sang in the choir for 50 years. Mr. Buncutter was a 1942 graduate of Handley High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II in the 447th Bombardment from 1942-1945 in Raddleston, England. He was Past Master Winchester Hiram Masonic Lodge #21; 50 year Scottish Rite Mason; member of Kena Shrine of Fairfax, VA; 60 year Royal Arch Mason and a member of Elks Lodge BPOE 867.
His wife, Louise Duncan Buncutter, whom he married on September 30, 1950, preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 2005.
Surviving are four nieces, Betty Spitzer(Gary)of Wilmington, NC, Barb Bandyke (Tim), of Winchester, Sandy Butler(Neil) of Tallahassee, FL, and Becky Bush (Junie) of Winchester; two nephews, Ken Shick (Robin) of Tampa, FL and Larry Duncan of Winchester; great nieces and nephews: Rick Spitzer of Brooklyn, NY, Jon Spitzer (Trimble) of San Francisco, CA, Matt Bandyke (Taylor), of Atlanta, GA, and Sarah Leonard (Robert) of Winchester, Matthew Shick (Kathryn), Jonathan Shick (Casie), and Spencer Shick, all of Tampa, FL, Neil Butler, Jr. (Kara) of Los Angeles, CA, Alex Bush of Winchester, Carin Butler of Tallahassee, FL, and Liza Coffman (Seth) of Edinburg, VA; one great, great nephew, Brooks Butler of Los Angeles, CA; three sisters-in-law, Marjorie D. Glover (Duell), of Winchester, Mae Shick of Tallahassee, FL, and Betty Alden Duncan of Winchester, VA. A sister, Clara Elizabeth Buncutter, a brother, Richard Buncutter, a sister-in-law, Mildred Wine, and two brothers-in-law, Ken V. Shick and Bill Duncan are deceased.
A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday at 1:00 PM at Mount Hebron Cemetery, with Rev. James A. Utt and Dr. Kenneth D. Shick officiating.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Masonic Rites at 7:30 PM.
