Julian Crawford Ebersole, 84, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018, at his home with his lifelong companion, Cricket Allanson, by his side.
Mr. Ebersole was born in 1933 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Earl and Nellie Ebersole Grim. He was a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1951, the first graduating class of James Wood High School on Amherst Street, and was a veteran of the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed in Alaska. Mr. Ebersole helped to open the first Sears Roebuck and Company retail store in Winchester in March 1952, with a military leave until 1955, and moved to the Apple Blossom Mall in 1982 as Sales Manager. He retired in 1993 after 41 years of service. He was a member of Winchester Moose and American Legion in Winchester. Mr. Ebersole was a member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church.
He met the love of his life, Ila “Cricket” Allanson, while at Sears.
Surviving with his lifelong companion of 50 years, Cricket, is a son, Richard A. Ebersole of Edenton, North Carolina and a brother, David C. Grim of Stephens City, Virginia.
Mr. Ebersole was preceded in death by a sister, Frances E. Cowgill and daughter-in-law, Kathryn Barnes Ebersole.
The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Ellen Heatwole officiating. A reception will follow the service at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel. Entombment will follow the reception in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Winchester, Virginia.
Serving as pallbearers will be John J. Kronenberger, Al Makowski, Jimmy Heatwole, Jerry Allen, Keith Pratt, and David C. Grim, Jr.
