Julia Evans Nelson
Julia Evans Zehring Nelson, age 96, of Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury, Winchester VA died March 2, 2010.
Mrs. Nelson was born in 1913 in Mount Jackson VA, the daughter of the late Laura R. and Alfred R. Evans.
She was a lifelong member of St Andrews Episcopal Church of Mount Jackson, the St. Andrews Episcopal Church Guild, and the VA Federation of Garden Clubs. She was also a member of the Shenandoah Co. Retired Teachers Association, the Mount Jackson Book Club, the Mount Jackson Community Library, the Shenandoah Co. Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Mount Jackson Garden Club.
She was a graduate of James Madison University and taught in the Shenandoah Co. VA schools for thirty four years.
Mrs. Nelson was the widow of Noble R. Zehring and Senator Burgess E. Nelson.
Surviving are a daughter, Jacquelyn Whiton Zehring of Winchester and two sisters: Antoinette Evans Rudolph of Wilmington NC and Leila Evans Miley of Winchester VA.
A brother, Alfred R. Evans, Jr., and a sister, Bertie Roller Callan, are deceased.
Also surviving are nieces Carla Spitzer Stickles and husband Gary of Columbus GA, Laura Miley Davis and husband Richard of Newport News VA, Carol Miley Grainger of Richmond VA, and Susan Miley Nelson and husband Scott of Blacksburg VA. as well as nephews Gary Luther Spitzer and wife Elizabeth of Wilmington NC and Gregory Moffett Evans and wife Nadine of Mableton GA. and great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Elizabeth Lewis will be held in the chapel at Westminster-Canterbury of Winchester on Saturday March 6, 2010 at 2pm.
A private burial will be in the Mount Jackson Cemetery.
