Joyce Iser Smelser, 71 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023 quietly at home.

Joyce was born in 1952 in Hagerstown, MD, the daughter of the late Earl William and Hazel Iser. She was a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1970. Joyce worked for 40 years as church secretary at Woodbine Assembly of God and went on to retire from Stonewall Elementary School, also as secretary. She loved her family, adored her grandbabies. Joyce loved to feed everyone and was known for her world famous mac & cheese. She loved her church and her church family and was an Elder in her church. Joyce was a wealth of information and was always there for everyone when they needed it – very giving of her time and love. Joyce enjoyed visiting Lancaster, PA, was a fan of the Oak Ridge Boys, she also enjoyed photography and had taken many photos over the years of just about everything.

Joyce married Ralph Edward Smelser on July 15, 1972 in Winchester, VA, he preceded her in death on May 5, 2020.

She is survived by her daughter, Elisabeth Smelser Myers (Mike) of Winchester, VA; son, Joshua Edward Smelser (Dawn) of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Hannah, Elijah and Ava Grace Smelser; sisters, Linda Jewell (Wayne) of Winchester, VA, Alice Lark of Hedgesville, WV and her brother, David Iser (Sherri) of Gore, VA.

A visitation will be held for Joyce on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 11am with a service at 1pm all held at Woodbine Assembly of God. Interment will be in Old Stone Church Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will follow the burial at the church. Officiating will be Rev. Louis Whitford, III.

Pallbearers will be, Andrew Smelser, Nathan Smelser, Ross Smelser, Robbie Smelser, Dakota Smelser, Derrick Narvaez, Chris Jewell and Aaron Jewell.
