Josephine “Jo” Ann Wingenbach, 89, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at The Willows at Meadow Branch.
Mrs. Wingenbach was born in 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Orazio and Christina Vadala. She graduated from Northern Virginia Community College, earning an Associate’s degree in Nutrition. Mrs. Wingenbach was a Dietition with District Nursing Home in Warrenton, Virginia before retiring. She was a member of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy, was a fashion model with Saks Fifth Avenue, Palm Beach, Florida in the 1950’s, enjoyed golf, bowling, sewing, knitting, shopping, and volunteering. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
Her husband, John David Wingenbach, Jr., whom she married on April 13, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, preceded her in death in 2010. Mrs. Wingenbach was a dedicated, loyal military wife.
Surviving is a daughter, Kristie Parker (Donnie) of Bealeton, Virginia and a son, David Wingenbach (Margery) of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, John F. Wingenbach (Rachel) of Smithville, Texas, Joseph R. Wingenbach (Caroline) of Winchester, Virginia, Thomas S. Wingenbach (Jordan) of Richmond, Virginia, and Erica E. Mason (Lee) of Bealeton, Virginia; four great grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Nascenta of Staten Island, New York.
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Wingenbach was preceded in death by sisters, Jean Abbate, Mildred Packard, Lillian Kuhlman, Grace Sicignano, Ann Speed; and brother, Sal Vadala.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 am on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with The Very Reverend Webster Gibson officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
