Joe Simpson

Joseph Roger Simpson, 68, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, November 19, 2012 in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Simpson was born in 1944, in Round Hill, Virginia, the son of the late Ashby R. Simpson and Olive Mae Goodnow. He was a graduate of Loudoun County High School, Class of 1962. Mr. Simpson was a PGA Golf Pro at the River Bend Country Club, Greene Hills Country Club, Shenandoah Valley Country Club, Bowling Green Country Club and Jacksons Chase Country Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winchester.

He married Jane Dutrow on July 17, 1999, in Berryville, Virginia.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Anthony J. Simpson and wife, Arlise, of Loris, South Carolina, Scott D. Simpson of Winchester; step-daughter, Keryn J. Keyes of Winchester; step-son, David L, Keyes, Jr., of Charles Town, West Virginia; grandchildren, Skylar L. Simpson, Aubrey M. Nitz, Michael D. Keyes, Jennifer N. Keyes, and Somer R. White; sister, Mary E. Lloyd and husband, Wilmer “Jr.”, of Winchester; brothers, Charles R. Simpson and wife, Barbara, of Mountain City, Tennessee, Ashby T, Simpson and wife, Patti, of Kearneysville, West Virginia and David R. Simpson and wife, Sandy, of Hamilton, Virginia.

The family will receive friends on Friday, prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Rev. Steve Melester officiating.

Dearest Joe- Heaven is a little brighter now that you are there. When I think of you I think of a sweet, gentle, loving man who loved his two sons unconditionally. I think of a patient man/father who never gave up even during times when most would have thrown in the towel. I think of a man who had a passion for the game...the greatest game ever invented...GOLF! Which brings me to a quote I'll share- "Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle." The irony is a beautiful blessing really. That "occasional miracle" spared you the worst while making your exit here on Earth playing the game you fancied the most. God bless your sweet soul and may you now rest in peace.
