Joseph “Joe” Ray Wenzel, 67, of Inwood, West Virginia passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.
Joe was born in 1950 in the Panama Canal Zone, the son of the late Alvin and Alma Wenzel. He was in trucking management for 21+ years. Joe was employed as a Magistrate for the Commonwealth of Virginia for 10 years before pursuing another career. He then earned an Associate’s degree in nursing and became a licensed practical nurse. Joe was currently employed at Winchester Family Practice who enjoyed caring for others. He also loved to cook, enjoyed fishing and golfing; most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. Joe attended Westview Baptist Church, Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Joe married Shirley McCreight on October 7, 1997 in Key West, Florida.
Surviving with his loving wife are daughters, Sally Morgan Lail (Bradley) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Brooke Morris Roach (Jonathan) of Bunker Hill, West Virginia; grandchildren, Talen Joseph Hartman, Andrew Roach, Breckin Roach, Deacon Lail, Stormi Roach, Elias Roach, and Maximus Lail; sister, Alsa Jane Wenzel of Inwood, West Virginia; brother, Jeffrey G. Wenzel (Suzanne) of Mount Airy, North Carolina; brother-in-law, David McCreight (Diane); sister-in-law, Rebecca Hendrix (Mark); nieces, Jody Wenzel, Lauren Hendrix, and Holly Hendrix; and nephew, Alvin Joseph Wenzel.
Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brina Ellen Hartman.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 am on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Bryan Dugger officiating. Interment will be private. A continued time of fellowship will follow the service at Brewbakers Restaurant.
