Joseph “Joe” P. Wright
Joseph Pinkney Wright, 65, of Winchester, Virginia, died Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Wright was born in 1948, in Winchester, Virginia, the son of Betty B. Wright and the late Loring J. Wright, Jr. He was a graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1966 and Bluefield College where he received an Associate’s Degree. Mr. Wright became part of the family owned business, L.J. Wright and Son in 1976, and later in life joined Buettner Tire. Joe will forever be remembered for his love and respect of the great outdoors where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and golfing whenever possible. He was a well-known Eagle Scout where he went onto lead an Explorer Troop. He was active in participating with the Exchange Club holding offices both locally and state wide. Joe also served on both the Lord Fairfax Community College Education and Foundation Boards. He was also a member of both the Izaak Walton League and Braddock Street United Methodist Church. Joe had a strong faith which grew as he faced more and more adversity and health problems.
Having been a kidney transplant recipient, he spoke openly about his path so that others could learn. He was a strong advocate for organ donation.
He married Jeannie Ferguson on December 1, 1972, in Richmond, Virginia.
Surviving with his mother and wife is his daughter, Candice Gardner and her husband, Charles, of Clearbrook; three grandchildren, Erin, Christopher and Alyssa, one brother, Robert B. Wright and wife, Mary, of Winchester as well as a nephew, Zachary Wright and his wife, Bailey and many cousins and close friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 5:00-7:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday at Braddock Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Kirk Nave officiating and Reverend Adam Sowder co-officiating. Interment will be private.
