Joseph Patrick Malone

Joseph Patrick Malone, age 71, of Winchester, VA, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at his residence. Mr. Malone was born in 1941 in Newport News, VA, the son of the late David Anthony and Alice Malone. He was retired from General Electric where he was a mechanic. He attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Mr. Malone was an avid newspaper reader and an avid sports fan, especially Notre Dame, the Yankees and the Mets. He attended Old Dominion University.

He married June Lynn Emery on July 31, 1970, in Winchester VA.

Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Maureen Dick and husband, Michael of Stephens City, VA; two sisters, Margaret Harris and husband, Bob, of Acton, MA and Mary Malone of Hampton, VA. His sister and brother in-law, Betty and Buddy Chicklo of Winchester and Betty Emery of Enfield, CT;, sister-in-law, Diane Malone of Gloucester, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers, David Anthony Malone, Jr. and Neil Malone and

brother-in-Law Donald Emery.

All services will be private.

I met Joe in 1976, just after my sixteenth birthday on bicentennial weekend. He was the manager of a local Tastee Freeze and hired me. On my first night I made such a mess of things that I thought he would fire me. He didn't and he later made me night manager and also became my baseball and basketball coach. He even loaned me his Cadillac to use to impress a date. He was like a second father to me at that time and I can remember crying the day him and June left the Eastern Shore. I will miss him and cherish the one dollar bets we always made that he lost when the Orioles played the Yankees. I still have those dollars as he always signed them. Thanks for the memories...God bless you Joe!!
