Joseph “Joe” Nathaniel Davis, Jr. passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Davis was born in October 1932, in Gainesboro, Virginia, the son of the late Joseph N. and Flora V. Davis, Sr. Mr. Davis was a Veteran having served in the United States Army. He was a Mechanic retiring after 30 years of service from Omps Garage in Frederick County. Mr. Davis was a member of Redland United Methodist Church, the Winchester Eagles #824 and Gainesboro Ruritan Club, where he was a Charter Member. He was Honorary Fire Chief at Gainesboro Fire and Rescue which he helped found and loved volunteering there and at the Ruritan Club. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles Fan as well as a NASCAR Racing fan. He loved gardening, and enjoyed gathering and cracking black walnuts. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren, they were his greatest pleasure in life.
He married Elizabeth Ann Webber on February 2, 1953, in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife are his daughters, Janet Davis and Joyce Wright, both of Winchester. Four grandchildren, Ann Taylor and husband, AJ Sperry, of Gainesboro, Joseph Grubbs of Winchester, David Grubbs and wife, Jenn of Inwood, WV and Daniel Grubbs of Stephens City. Great grandchildren, Athan Taylor, Avelyn Taylor Sperry and Allie Grubbs. Sisters, Pauline DeHaven of Winchester, Ester Fore and husband, Bobby, of Roanoke, Viola Palmer and husband, Cletus, of Winchester; and brother, William Davis and wife, Ginny, of Shockeysville.
Two daughters, Judith DeHaven and Josephine Peacemaker and one brother, Robert Davis, preceded him in death.
Pallbearers will be Brad Omps, Brian Omps, Carl DeHaven, James DeHaven, Jackie Venskoske, Don Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gainesboro Fire & Rescue, Gainesboro Ruritan Club.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Gary Palmer and Reverend Melissa Porter-Miller officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
