Joseph David Shanholtz, 87 of White Post, VA, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at his home.
Joseph was born in 1938 in Slanesville, WV, the son of Osa and Georgia Shanholtzer. He retired after 40 years of service as a carpenter for Mark Barnett Construction. He was a member of Burnt Factory Church.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather whose life was defined by love, hard work, and devotion to his family. A true outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting and fishing, and some of his best moments were spent sharing those passions with family and friends. He was a loyal supporter of the Martinsburg Bulldogs and never missed a chance to cheer them on. Known for his storytelling, he could captivate a room with memories, humor, and wisdom from a life well lived. Above all, he was a provider and protector. He worked tirelessly to give his family a good life. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Ellen; daughters, Terri Hudson (Floyd) of Boyce, VA, Vikki Davis (Chris) of Martinsburg, WV; son, Scott Shanholtz of Hedgesville, WV; grandchildren, Whitney Hudson Maddox of Boyce, VA, Hillary Hudson of Berryville, VA, Tanner Shanholtz of Hedgesville, WV, Rachel Shanholtz of Hedgesville, WV and Noel Davis of Martinsburg, WV and great-granddaughter, Scarlett Maddox of Boyce, VA.
In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Shanholtz Corbin.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 2pm in Edgehill Cemetery, 604 Hunter St., Charles Town WV. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Melester.
