Jose Monserrate “Pepito” Ortiz, Jr., 83, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living.
Mr. Ortiz was born in 1936 in San German, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Maria Ignacia and Jose Monserrate Ortiz, Sr. Mr. Ortiz was a veteran of the United States Army having served between the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He was a Hospital Services Supervisor at Mother Cabrini Hospital in New York, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed dancing, listening to music, and loved to play softball. Mr. Ortiz attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester, Virginia.
He married Emma Luz Villamil Florido on April 27, 1957 at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in The Bronx, New York.
Surviving with his wife of 62 years are his daughters, Jane Frances Buchbauer (Peter), Diane Marie Vitiello (Vito), Lucille Ann Shyti (Stephen); grandchildren, Joseph Buchbauer (Lauren), Peter Buchbauer, Michael Buchbauer (Sara), Maria Buchbauer, Stephanie Caccamo (Vincent), Steven Boldis, Nicolette Vitiello, Joseph Vitiello, Jennifer Virzera (David) and Christopher Shyti (Elissa); great grandchildren, William Buchbauer, Henry Buchbauer, Eric Buchbauer, Aiden Caccamo, Sadie Caccamo, Harley Caccamo, Chase Caccamo, MacKenzie Caccamo, Scarlett Boldis, James Virzera and Alexander Virzera.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Ada Valentin and a great granddaughter, Mary Clare Buchbauer.
A visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 am on Tuesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Reverend Michael Dobbins officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
