One of my most wonderful memories was when we went to dinner with him when we drove through Kingsport on our way to Dallas. He taught me of Seder and invited me to participate every year until they moved. ❤ And there was another time when he and Mom sang for me, (I hope I find the tape of them singing) the "City of New Orleans". Rest in warmth and peace Dad, until we meet again. Love always. ?❤?

My Dearest Kristin & Family I am sorry to hear of John’s passing. I do know that he left you with many memories and much love and will therefore live with you forever. It was a joy to see the wonderful picture that you chose to share with his obituary. It didn’t look like the suited accountant John that I knew in Kingsport, but it did look like the fun loving John had finally escaped that suit and was enjoying life to the fullest, Which I don’t mean to imply he hadn’t always been doing. I do remember his rich voice and I pray that each of you can bring it back to your mind whether spoken or in music. He was gifted, loving, and gentle. John Zimet will indeed be missed. You indeed are loved. Kathy Dowda
June Steffensen Hagen left a message on January 9, 2020:
John Zimet was the spirit of the New York Choral Society: big, friendly, welcoming. He once responded to our need for a bass in our little church choir and travelled out to Brooklyn from upper Manhattan early one Sunday so we could do parts of the Schubert Mass in G which our choir director had translated and set for small (very small) choir. I was the alto, Jim the tenor, John the bass, and the sopranos two parishioners who didn’t read music well but who had nice voices. It wasn’t too bad, but the bass line was formidable and very necessary! Such great Spirit John had. “Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him.”

I send my love and prayers to the Zimet family on the passing of John Zimet. John had all the qualities anyone would want in a friend, kindness, humor, sincerity and above all love. I have very fond memories of John as a friend, and as a fellow singer in the New York Choral Society. John, you will always remain in our hearts.

I am sorry to hear of John's passing. I knew John from New York Choral Society, although by the time I joined in 1973, he had left the presidency. He was, however, warm and welcoming to a new bass, and I enjoyed our conversations. My condolences to his family and friends.

I consider John Zimet as a dear friend. He was excellent voice in many choral groups near and far. He gave of his time and talents to many others without expecting any return of favor. He embodied a spirit of life for others. I will miss my friend, however I will fondly remember all of the times we had together. His candle of life still glows in my memory. Now rest in peace my friend.
