Frances Wiles left a message on March 14, 2020:
I have never met Big John but came to know of him through my son, Ashley Wiles. When Ashley came to the Dulles Facility of Alban Tractor he was just out of the Penn College heavy equipment program. No surprise, when it was learned of Ashley's formal education there was some disdain. Big John befriended Ashley and really became a mentor to him. showing him things that were gained from years of on the job experience. I am under the impression that he was greatly respected by the others in the crew and justly so. Even when John had retired he was still an important person to my son. I am sorry for your loss and want you to know that I, by extension that am sadden by his passing. Blessings to him, you and your families. Frances Wiles

To my friend and mentor big John. Your memory and words will live in my heart forever. As the young guy you mentored and taught during the Pennsylvania coal boom days when we worked together at Highway Equipment, I will always hold you in my memory as truly one of the greatest mechanics who ever lived. I will always treasure those days when we crawled around in the mud under those bulldozers together and all the fun and laughs we had. Thank you for everything you taught me and instilled in me. It served me well throughout my life and is a tribute to the great man you truly were. Rest in peace Big John, I will never forget you..........
