John Robert Strother, 88, of Stephenson, Virginia, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Strother was born in 1927, in Gainesboro, Virginia, the son of the late Harry Lee and Sarah Blanche Strother. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Strother was a retired production worker with ABEX, serving for 39 years. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Stephenson, Virginia. Mr. Strother enjoyed farming.
He married Venelda O. Clowser on September 22, 1947, in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Surviving with his wife are daughters, Patsy Shewbridge and husband, Dean, Linda Bell and husband, Ray; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren and sister, May Jane Williams and her husband, Earl.
Two daughters, Peggy Campbell and Donna Fay Strother, two brothers and two sisters, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Mount Williams, Virginia, with Pastor Larry Clarke officiating.
