Obituary for John Neil Thomas

Mr. John Neil Thomas, age 67, of Sarasota, FL, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Mr. Thomas was born in Leesburg, VA, the son of the late William C. S. Thomas and Reva Thomas. He was a retired social worker, spent a lifetime coaching little league baseball and was especially devoted to helping underprivileged children. He was an acolyte leader at Pohick Church in Lorton, VA and a church bell ringer in his youth at Christ Episcopal Church in Alexandria, VA. He was a member of The Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Batie S. Thomas; three sons, Tim and his wife, Leah, Jason and Kevin and his wife, Stacy; and four grandchildren, Sara, Ben, Joshua and Roman.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, June 7 at 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, Winchester, VA with Reverend Webster Gibson officiating. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery in Gainesboro, VA.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
