John Kenneth Holliday, Sr. “HP”, 94, of Strasburg, Virginia formerly of Winchester, Virginia passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at his daughter’s home.
Mr. Holliday was born in 1922 in Frederick County, Virginia the son of the late Martin A. and Bertha F. Holliday. He was employed in various positions over the years beginning with MM Adams as a wrecker operator, Emmert Oil Company with over 30 years of service and ultimately retired as a car salesman having been co-owner of Friendly Motor Company. HP, as his family and closest friends knew him, was known as a loving father, grandfather and friend to so many. He will be greatly missed and remembered for his love of family, friends, dancing, country music, good food, Washington Redskins, and of course all Women, cars and money.
His wife, June Madline Holliday, whom he married on February 12, 1945 in Winchester, Virginia preceded him in death on November 21, 1995.
Surviving are daughters, Betty Patterson of Centerville, Virginia, Nancy Combs and Tonya Holliday both of Winchester, Virginia, Barbara Hammon and husband Tommy of Strasburg, Virginia; sons, John Holliday, Jr. and wife, Nancy, Larry Holliday and wife, Teresa, Dave “Doc” Holliday, and Roger Holliday all of Winchester, Virginia; and seventeen grandchildren, many, many great grandchildren as well as extended family members and many close friends.
Mr. Holliday was preceded in death by his wife, June; son, Thomas Martin Holliday; sisters, Rebecca Luttrell and Mildred Whitacre; and brothers, Bill, Melford, and Frank Holliday.
HP’s family wishes to offer their most sincere appreciation and gratitude to those who cared for him over the years, his daughter Barbara Hammon and granddaughters, Marlena Combs and Gloria Rhodes.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Winchester, Virginia.
