John H. Kane

John Harold Kane, 90, of Stephens City, VA, died Friday, June 18, 2010 at the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Facility.

Mr. Kane was born in Manassas, VA in 1920, the son of John J. and Lula Kane. He had worked as the Chief of Division of Markets for the Bureau of Poultry and Egg Marketing Services, having retired in 1984. He attended Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown, VA and was a 1938 graduate of Manassas High School.

Mr. Kane married Frances Anna Beeton on September 11, 1943 in Washington, D.C.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Kane Pence, and her husband, Tom Pence, of Timberville, VA and Missy Kane Spielman, and her husband, Chetty Spielman, of Winchester; three grandchildren, Christopher Kane Spielman and his wife, Valerie of Selah, WA, Joseph Ryan Spielman and his wife Jenni of Winchester, Amy Pence Crawford and her husband, Chris of Salem, VA; four great grandchildren, Lani and Joseph Spielman, Lily Spielman and Caitlyn Crawford; and a sister, Helen Shepherd of Cameron, WV. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Harley, Florence Kane, and Mae Clemons; and a brother, William Kane.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown, VA, with Pastor Thomas Keithley officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.

Our family has had the pleasure of knowing John for well over 30 years. During that time he has been the example of what you would call a true GENTLEMAN. He was always kind, caring , unassuming and as Charlie says so glad to see you. He truly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.The last thing I remember him saying (while we visited in the hospital) was him telling Lani and Joe he was anxious to get out so he could sit on the bleachers and support them at their ball games.While he may not be there in body you can bet he will be there in spirit. Lets hope they have a cosco in heaven so he can have his special treat. Our prayers will be with you all in the coming weeks and months. God Bless Charlie Sandy and family
