John Hamilton “Jack” Seal, 87, of Winchester, Virginia, died after an extended illness on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal, Virginia.
Mr. Seal was born October 10, 1922 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late John H. and Regina D. Seal, Jr. Mr. Seal was a veteran having served during World War II in the United States Air Force from 1941-1945. His tour of duty with USAF-8 took him from Cuba throughout the European Allied Forces. After the war, “Jack” became a pioneer in the field of radar electronics and pursued a successful business career in the state of New York.
He married his wife, Margaret Dick, on June 16, 1945 at Braddock Street Methodist Church in Winchester, Virginia. Prior to returning to Winchester, “Jack” and Margaret enjoyed a full life in Long Island New York and Charlottesville, VA, where they were members of Garth Road Presbyterian Church.
Surviving with his wife is his sister, Anne Douglas Penn of Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Seal has nine nieces and nephews: Robert Penn and Anne Bomar, both of Texas, Susan Turnbull, Gregory Dick, Anne Clare Morrison, John Dick, J. Benjamin Dick, Cecelia Dick Burton and Thomas Dick, all of Winchester, Virginia, along with a large number of great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Steve Melester officiating. Interment will be private. Military Honors will be accorded by VFW Post 2123.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Seal’s nine nieces and nephews, and Neil Burton, Brooke Turnbull and Daniel Burton.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
