John H. Huffman

        John H. Huffman, 70, of Winchester, Virginia, died, Monday, April 22, 2013, in Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Care Center, Winchester, Virginia.

Mr. Huffman was born in 1943, in McLean, Virginia, the son of the late Lynn and Mary Huffman.  He was an Engineer Inspector with V-Dot, retiring in 2005. John was a dedicated volunteer firefighter for over 54 years and has served many communities within the Northern Virginia Area. In his spare time he was known for his passion of the outdoors including boating and fishing. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather as well as a friend to many who will be greatly missed.

He married Sara Yancey in June, 1985 in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mary Gros of Falls Church, Virginia, Dawn Nelson and husband, Brian, of Broad Run, Virginia; two step-sons, Ted Sikes and wife, Brandi, of High Point, North Carolina, Andy Sikes and wife, Melissa, of Mechanicsville, Virginia; son-in-law, Jim Gros of Falls Church, Virginia; seven grandchildren; Amber, Tim, Emma, Riley, Katie, and Olivia; his sister, Melissa Stoltz, of Manassas, Virginia; as well as two nieces; Rebecca and Rachel; two nephews, Rob and Doug.

One grandson, James Richard and one brother, Robert Lynn “Bobby” Huffman, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00-9:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, at Allen United Methodist Church, Allen, Maryland, with Reverend Bill Kniceley officiating.  Interment will be in Allen United Methodist Church Cemetery, Allen, Maryland.
