John Edward Shuman, 66, of Winchester, VA, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023 quietly at home.

John was born in 1957 in Naples, Italy, the son of Rosemarie (Becker) Shuman and the late Bruce Edward Shuman. He graduated from James Wood High School, Class of 1976 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Temple University. John was owner/operator of Shuman’s Flag Car, formerly Shuman’s East Coast Relay, since 1994. He was an honorary member of both the Frederick County Ruritan and Greenwood Volunteer Fire & Rescue. John was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed fishing, farming, being outdoors, and helping others.

John is survived by his mother; sister, Patricia A. Shuman of Arlington, VA; brother, Hans Dieter Shuman and wife, Lorraine, of Augusta, WV; nephew, Patrick Shuman of Luray, VA; and niece, Skylar Shuman of Nashville, TN.

John is preceded in death by his father and his sister, Linda Sue Shuman.

Services for John will be held at a later date.

I just saw John has passed. I went to school and church with John a long time ago. John a guy big heart,tender heart and a soft spirit. One who ever met John, he made an imprint on their life he is not the type of person you forget. I moved away from Winchester 17 years ago but there are many people that remain in mind heart and thoughts. John was one of them as well as his mother Rose My love and prayers and hugs go out to the whole family.

John will be missed by all who loved him. He was a great neighbor, classmate and a very nice person and a good man.

Our Heart, thoughts & Prayers are with the family. John was a good man and will be greatly missed. Mark has many great memories he will always hold dear.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I worked with John at the Country Store many years ago. He was a great person.

Rosie, I am so very sorry to hear that John has left us…way to soon….Although, I haven’t recently seen any of you, it doesn’t mean that you all haven’t been in my thoughts. You will always be one of my favorite friends. Please accept my deepest love , prayers & sympathy.

John was one of the best friends I ever had. He was a part of my family, like a brother to my dad, wife and I and an uncle to my three children. I will miss his sense of humor and friendship. He mentored me both personally and spiritually, helping me to be a better man.

I'm sad to hear of John's passing. I'll look back fondly on some of our adventures in our younger days. Rest in peace friend. Thoughts and prayers to the family.
