John D. Carneal, Jr., age 69, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
John was born on March 8, 1957, in Leesburg, Virginia, to John D. Carneal, Sr. and Ruby K. (Foglesong) Carneal. He graduated from Loudoun County High School Class of 1975. He went on to attend Hampden-Sydney College in Prince Edward, Virginia, where he was a proud member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
On September 26, 1981, John married the love of his life, Virginia “Ginger” (Tezak) Carneal, in Amissville, Virginia. Together, they built a beautiful life and family over 44 years of marriage.
John spent his career working as a dedicated estimator in the excavation and site development industry, lending his skills to LB Mason & Son in Purcellville, Virginia, and later to Heritage Site Development, also in Purcellville. He was also an avid and passionate supporter of the Virginia Youth Ballet.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ginger Carneal; his mother, Ruby F. Carneal of Harrisonburg, VA; his two daughters, Shannon Houck (William, III) of Berryville, VA, and Christen Lebo (Seth) of Winchester, VA; three cherished grandchildren, Chloe Carneal, Catherine Lebo, and Carter Lebo; and his brother, Kent Carneal (Kestina) of Harrisonburg, VA.
John was preceded in death by his father, John D. Carneal, Sr.
A service celebrating John’s life will be announced at a later date.
