John Benton Greene, Sr., 72, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Monday, November 26, 2018, at his home.

Mr. Greene was born in 1946 in Page County, Virginia, the son of the late Allen Greene and Agnes Dinges. He was a graduate of Page County High School, Class of 1964 and attended Bridgewater College and Virginia Tech. Mr. Greene was an insurance agent, retiring from Nationwide Insurance after 15 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, golf, skiing, traveling, and hiking.

He married Rebecca Roudabush on March 13, 1966 in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Surviving with his wife of 52 years is a daughter, Alicia Dawn Greene (Benton) of Wasilla, Alaska and a son, John Benton Greene, Jr. (Allison) of Bonney Lake, Washington; sister, Patricia Greene Baker (Jim) of McGaheysville, Virginia; brother, Allen Reid Greene (May) of Portland, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Greene was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Greene Robertson.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 3 pm on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with nephew, Jamie Baker officiating. Interment will be private.

John gave me my first lesson in repelling on Route 637 going towards the river near Noah’s Ark pet store. His daughter Alicia and my brother were there as well. I was immediately hooked. He sometimes took on the father roll for both my brother and myself as our father wasn’t involved in our lives. I passed that area this evening, pulled over & just sat there remembering that particular day and being thankful that he took the time to help me experience something new that I immediately fell in love with! It’s no wonder that both of his children grew up with an adventurous spirit. He helped instill that in everyone.
