John Alfred Robertson, a beloved patriarch and friend to many, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024, peacefully at his home in Winchester, VA at the age of 83.
John was born in 1940 in Baltimore, MD, to the late William and Elizabeth Robertson. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. John raised his family in Huntington Bay, NY, where he spent time on his cherished boat, which he affectionately named Barbara Ann, after his loving wife. A perfect summer day would include taking his family and friends on his boat on the Long Island Sound.
He retired as an oil truck driver for HUFCO in Huntington, NY. After moving to Virginia, John became a member of the Front Royal Elks Lodge and the Stephens City Moose Lodge. It was at these clubs that John fostered friendship and community, something that always came easy to him. John was known for his witty humor, captivating stories, and his ability to make friends everywhere he went. He often spent afternoons with his phone book in hand, calling old friends just to catch up. In his free time, John loved golf, bowling and meeting up with friends at the local Chick-fil-A.
He is survived by the love of his life, Barbara Ann Robertson, whom he married on January 4, 1964. This January they celebrated an incredible 60 years of marriage. They built a beautiful family and together they raised 4 children: Lisa Broschard (Tommy), Brian Robertson, Debby O’Donnell (Darrin) and Kimberly Harper (James). John and Barbara were blessed with 8 grandchildren: Michael, Ryan, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Brittany, Brendon, Savannah, Trent, and 2 great-grandchildren: Ella and Olivia. John is also survived by his brother, William E. Robertson of Annapolis, MD.
John is preceded in death by his grandparents who were so special to him, Alfred L. Fawcett and Evelyn Fawcett.
A joint visitation will be held to honor both Barbara and John on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm with a joint service the following day, Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 11am, all held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Barbara and John will be laid to rest together in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Luray, VA, surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains she loved so dearly.
John Alfred Robertson will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend to many. His stories, wisdom, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
