JoEllen Huey, 85 of Stephens City, VA passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025, peacefully at her home.

Jo was born in 1939 in Michigan then soon after moved to Elkins WV. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Irene Harris. She was a graduate of Elkins High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Shenandoah University. Jo worked as a registered nurse at Winchester Memorial Hospital. She was of the Methodist faith. Jo was a member of the Stephens City Lions Club and was their first female president. She enjoyed camping, traveling, shopping, doing crafts and eating out. Most of all she loved taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jo was also very proud of her Elkins, WV roots.

She married James Q. Huey on October 25, 1957, in Washington D.C. and he preceded her in death on August 13, 2017.

Jo is survived by her daughters, Debi M. Ramey (Bill), Cyndie J. Layman (Roger); grandchildren, Helen Reinhardt (Chris), Zachery Layman (Chelsea), Megan Ryder, Joshua Layman (Jesi), Katelyn Ryder and Kayla Ramey; great-grandchildren, Kegan, Evelyn, Lillian, Warren and James; sister, Bonnie Batdorf (Jack); niece, Beth Corley (Keith), great-nieces, Alexa Eva and Kendall Corley and son-in-law, Mike Ryder.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jo is preceded in death by her daughter, Mitz K. Ryder.

A service will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 2pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a reception to follow at Omps Reception Center.
