Joan Royse Barnhart passed away on January 16th, 2018 at the Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the age of 73.
Joan was born on March 4th, 1944 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to James M. Doran and Barbara C. Doran. She graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, and afterwards attended medical secretary school.
In her spare time, Joan was a talented piano player who enjoyed performing in different nursing homes and churches all around the area, sharing her love for music. She was a loyal employee at Wal-Mart Store for 19 years, where she was affectionately known as “Miss Walmart” by loving customers for her joyful and kind personality. She was also a devoted Christian member of the Salvation Army Church in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Her family paid this tribute to Joan, “She was loved by her family, friends, and fellow church members where she spread joy by playing piano. Her kindness and open heart will be sorely missed.”
Mrs. Barnhart is survived by her son, Daniel V. Barnhart and daughter in-law, Sandi Snyder; her brother, John W. Doran and his wife Janet T Doran; her grandchildren, Kasey Barnhart, Tiffany Barnhart, Kayla & Ben Calabria, and Jennifer Howard.
Joan is predeceased by her parents, her son, James Matthew Barnhart, and her husband, Benny Barnhart.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A reception will follow the service at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel.
