Joan D. McDonald, 78, of Stephens City, Virginia passed away on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Winchester Medical Center.
Joan was born in 1940 in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Nora Susan and Thomas Dicks. She was a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1958. Joan and her husband were the owners and operators of McDonald Farms Wholesale Produce, formerly known as Ole McDonald’s Farm Market, retiring in 2004. She attended Relief United Methodist Church and was a member of Cedar Creek Presbyterian Church. Joan was also a member of the Virginia State Horticultural Society Women’s Auxiliary. She was a NASCAR fan and loved Shenandoah University’s Summer Musical Theatre. Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren.
She married James Kenneth McDonald, Sr. on June 13, 1959, he preceded her in death in 1990.
Surviving is her daughter, Kimberly G. McDonald of Stephens City, Virginia; son, James K. “Kenny” McDonald, Jr. of Stephens City, Virginia; and grandchildren, Brittany N. Ginn of Reston, Virginia, Kourtney M. Ginn of Washington, D.C., Keri A. McDonald-Vilijoen and husband, Zen of South Africa.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, Judy Wolfrey and brother, Gene Dicks.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Relief United Methodist Church with Pastor Victor Gomez officiating. Interment in Green Hill Cemetery, Stephens City, Virginia, will be private.
