Jim “Jimmy” Steven Cassell, 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 20, 2017 at his home in Winchester, Virginia.
Jimmy was born in 1953 in Alexandria, Virginia, the son of the late Margaret and Jack Buchanan Cassell. He graduated from Fairfax High School, where he was the football star Quarterback. While in high school Jimmy started working at Drug Fair and his strong work ethic followed him throughout his life, often working two jobs. Jimmy was a veteran of the United States Army. After his military service Jimmy worked in the construction industry for companies such as Tyson Construction, Suburban Contractors, Builders Square, Jim’s Drywall, Cassco, and Southern Renovations. His dedication, skills, attention to detail, hard work, and love of being productive made him excel in his work life.
Jimmy was dependable in every way for everyone. His encouragement, enthusiasm, kind heart, and desire to help those around him seemed hard wired; this was simply a testament to who he was. Jimmy always gave to those around him and really never expected anything in return (although he was a firm believer in a handwritten thank you note). He just seemed to have a knack for making a person realize that they were loved, appreciated, and never forgotten. Jimmy’s kind, thoughtful, generous, and caring nature is what made those around him love him. Jimmy never married, which was a loss to someone because he loved more deeply and was far more sensitive than most. He was just an amazing man in every way.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his brother, “Jackie” in 1989; his father, “Jack” in 1993 and his mother, Margaret in 2008.
Surviving is a brother, David Cassell and his wife, Renee Hale; a niece, Jennifer Cassell and her husband, Tom Houpt; and great nephew, C. Blake Cassell Erquiaga; aunt and uncle, Nancy and Thomas Baughan of Kernsville, North Carolina and their children; aunt, Ruth Clark of Elkview, West Virginia; cousin Linda Burgin and her husband, Romey of Ashland, Virginia and their children.
A final farewell to this man that has been and will be genuinely missed will be held at the City of Fairfax Cemetery on Thursday, May 11th at 10 a.m.
