Jesse James Richardson, Sr., 83, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Friday, February 27, 2009, in Martinsburg Veterans Hospital, Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Mr. Richardson was born in 1926, in Sutherlin, Virginia, the son of the late James A. and Mildred L. Richardson. He was the operator and co-owner with his wife Margie of Frye Amusement Company from 1967-1992. Upon retirement he worked part-time for Frye Amusement Company and Shenandoah Supplies. He was active as a coach for Frederick County Little League in the 1970’s. Mr. Richardson was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942-1946. He received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon Victory Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon (Star), Air Medal Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Crew Insignia (3 Silver Stars). Mr. Richardson was a lifetime member of the VFW post 2123, the American Legion, Post 21 and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 824.
Jesse was known for his quick wit, his ever present sense of humor and will be sorely missed by family and friends.
He was married to Margie E. Richardson.
Surviving with his wife are his daughter, Roxanne M. Palmer of Yanceyville, North Carolina, three sons, Jesse “Richie” J. Richardson, Jr. of Blacksburg, Virginia, Jason “Bird” Richardson of Leesburg, Virginia, Bryan K. Richardson of Falls Church, Virginia; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Shanholtz of Winchester, Virginia and Jane Tate of Danville, Virginia.
One daughter, Lynn Richardson and one sister, Clara Roberts preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 2, 2009 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Mr. Dennis Fishel officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
The Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
