Jerry Moore Chapman, age 81, of Stephens City, VA, passed away after a fourteen-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the beloved son of Alfred and Freddie Moore Chapman. A loving husband to Judy Tisinger Chapman for nearly 55 years, Jerry’s devotion to his family and community was evident throughout his life.
Jerry was a graduate of Handley High School and served in the U.S. Air National Guard as a medic for eight years. He began his career at the Pentagon, followed by the GSA, before dedicating 27 years to the U.S. Geological Survey. During his tenure, he drove numerous passengers in his vanpool from the Winchester community to their offices in Reston, fostering friendships and community spirit along the way.
Jerry cherished his family deeply. In addition to his wife, Judy, he is survived by his children Elaine (David), Jerry Douglas (Stephanie), David (fiancée Jennifer), and Justin (Gretchen). He was a proud grandfather to Hudson, Clara, Chase, and step-grandchildren, Taylor and Lexi. He also leaves behind, his beloved brother Alfred Chapman (June) and numerous nieces, nephews and grand dogs.
A faithful servant, Jerry was a long-time member of Kernstown United Methodist Church, where he served as a past Chairman of the Board of Trustees and was an active member of the Board and the Building Committee at the time of his passing. His commitment to his faith and community was unwavering. Jerry was known for his captivating storytelling, his fun, family trips to Ocean City and Myrtle Beach, and his dedication to the Kiwanis Club of Winchester, especially his involvement with the Pancake Day Committee.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Paul Kunk and the dedicated oncology and cardiology teams at UVA Medical Center, who provided exceptional support and care for Jerry and his family.
