Jeremy Dwayne McDonald, 39, of Middletown, Virginia, died Friday, December 11, 2015.

Mr. McDonald was born in 1976, in Winchester, Virginia, the son of Gary W. and Sharon R. McDonald. Jeremy was a graduate of Sherando High School (the first graduating class). He was a farmer on the family farm “Shen-Val Farm” and a livestock judge that traveled the world. He was very passionate in showing cattle and lived for farming. Jeremy enjoyed wrestling and was the first Regional Champion from Sherando High School. He was a Virginia FFA State Star Farmer and won many State, Regional and National Livestock Competitions. Jeremy had a great insight for people, he never met a stranger at a cow show, had a great love for family and would never “cut himself short” always giving his absolute best in everything that he did.

He married Melissa A. “Missy” Purtlebaugh on December 24, 2002, in Winchester, Virginia.

Surviving with his wife and parents is his son, Tyler J. McDonald.

His sister, Brandie Jo McDonald, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 5:00-9:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home Amherst Chapel.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Fairview Lutheran Church Cemetery, Gore, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to BB&T Bank, Middletown, c/o Tyler J. McDonald, 7800 Main Street – P.O. Box 253, Middletown, Virginia, 22645.

Both Jeremy and Brandie were students of mine at Aylor. Both were smart, creative, kind and well mannered, and liked by both students and teachers. What a joy they brought to the classroom. Heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.

We will never understand why these things happens, we only know that God has a plan for us from the time we are born until the time he takes us home to be with him. We purchased embryos out of the Cinderella cow. When we showed the heifer calf at Harrisburg I was so impressed that Jeremy came over to see her and talk to us. A few years later my Mom and Dad stopped at the farm and enjoyed a wonderful visit with Jeremy and his Dad. From all of us at Nutmeg Acres are thoughts and prayers to all for a life taken far to soon.

Dear Sharon & Gary: While the loss of a loved one is never easy, it is most certainly the hardest when they are taken from us too soon. The recent loss of your son who has left us at such a youthful age is definitely in the category of those hard losses for which there is so painful a reminder of what might have been. Jeremy is and was one of the best of men. I'm thankful for the time I've known Jeremy. He left behind some great memories for us all to treasure. I am extremely saddened by this news and wish to send my deepest condolences to the McDonald family. I have nothing but fond memories of Jeremy. He very much was like the big brother I never had when growing up on the McDonald family farm. He was never too busy to have us little ones tag along. Even though we would go years without seeing one another, he was always ready to greet us with a smile and a warm hello like no time had passed at all. This world would be a much better place if there were more Jeremys in it. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
