Howard Wilber
Jennings Howard Wilber, 97, of Cross Junction, Virginia, and former forty year resident of Glen Burnie, Maryland, died Friday, December 4, 2009, in his home.
Mr. Wilber was born in 1912, in Austin, Texas, the son of the late Alfred and Annie Laurie Wilber. He was a retired Master Sergeant in United States Air Force serving from 1941 – 1962, serving during World War II. He later retired from The National Security Agency in 1976. Mr. Wilber was a member of First Baptist Church in Winchester and the Gideons International.
His wife, Annis Ruth Gibson, whom he married on June 5, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee, preceded him in death on November 6, 2002.
Surviving is his daughter, Shirley Ann Calloway and her husband, Jim, of Cross Junction, Virginia; son, Stephen Howard Wilber and his wife, Maureen, of Havre de Grace, Maryland; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his sister, Annie Laurie “Lollie” Gravette of Silverhill, Alabama; and one brother, John Wilber of Yuma, Arizona.
His sisters, Christina Collier, Ruth Wilber; brothers, Alfred Wilber, James “Cotton” Wilber and Harry Wilber, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend George Fletcher officiating. Interment will be at 1:45 PM on Wednesday in the VA Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 12:00-2:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
