Jeffrey Michael “Jeff” West, 78, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Heritage Hall in Front Royal, Virginia.

Mr. West was born in 1942 in Martinsburg, WV, son of the late Garnett L. and Eva C. West. He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School, Class of 1960. Mr. West was the Director of Engineering with Washington Gas, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed history, astronomy, reading, photography, and music. He was also an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts and Explorers groups.

He married Helen Marie Bly on November 17, 1962 in Maryland.

Surviving with his wife are daughters, Cathy Cowans of Bunker Hill, WV, Teresa Migliore and her domestic partner, Brian Pryor, of Hedgesville, WV; grandchildren, Stephen Arnold of Fairfax, VA, Matthew Pryor and Michael Pryor, both of Hedgesville, WV; sister, Diane Lindblom and husband, Emil, of Montana and 14 nephews and nieces.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by five sisters, Ruth Evans, Gladys Greer, Jean Petrucci, Dawn Brenner, Sylvia Jonus and one brother, Paul West.

Services will be held at a later date.

I have many fond memories of Jeff. In High School he was active and a leader in the Martinsburg Boy Scouts. Our group would set-up at the county fair and do Indian dances. I remember at one of our jamborees, we caught a black snake. That evening Jeff danced with the snake in his mouth. Jeff was always a leader and a kind spirit. Jeff and I had some really good times.

Thanks Jeff, for being our Explorer Post leader in the mid to late 1960s. I was a Scout in Troop 22, and when that troop folded, you allowed me to get back into Scouting through Explorer Post 60. My involvement in Scouting, which included working four summers at Camp Rock Enon and attending Philmont Scout Ranch in 1967, had a major impact on my life. Thanks, and RIP!
