Jeannie Harper Rathman, 81, passed away peacefully at Winchester Medical Center, following a brief illness, on July 29, 2026, surrounded by her two daughters, her grandchildren, and their spouses.
Jeannie was born in 1945, in Petersburg, WV, one of five children, to Samuel L. Harper, Jr., and Thelma (Mallow) Harper, of Moorefield, WV.
In 2005, Jeannie married Frederick Lee Rathman, of Winchester.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her beloved granddaughter, Kathleen Nicole Teets.
Surviving Jeannie is her daughter, Amy Gray, and husband Michael DuBois, and daughter Julie Teets, and husband Gregory, in Winchester. Her grandchildren are Ella Gray in Richmond, Andrew Gray (Gracie), Brandon Teets (Tayla), and Michael Teets (Hannah Snapp), in Winchester. Her first great granchild, Everly Kay Teets, was born to Brandon and Tayla on July 31, 2026. Also surviving Jeannie are her siblings, Carole Ambrogi, Kay Judy Burks, Samuel Harper, III, and George T. Harper.
Jeannie was a graduate of Moorefield High School in Moorefield, WV. She was employed as a Receptionist at the Commonwealth Attorney Office in Frederick County, VA, prior to her retirement in 2013. She was an active participant with the Sherando Warrior Club in preparing meals for the football team, and she enjoyed watching football on Sundays. She attended Restoration Fellowship Church in Strasburg, VA.
A celebration of Jeannie’s life will be held on August 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Her family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, family and friends are invited for fellowship and lunch at the home of Julie and Greg Teets in Winchester. Guests are invited to wear green, Jeannie’s favorite color. Interment will take place at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester at a later date.
