Jean M. Ricketts, 87, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, March 28, 2016, at Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal, Virginia.
Mrs. Ricketts was born in 1928, in Virginia, the daughter of the late Gretna and Henry C. Manuel. She was a graduate of John Handley High School in Winchester. Mrs. Ricketts was a receptionist at Winchester Memorial Hospital (now Winchester Medical Center) and a homemaker. She attended Wesley United Methodist Church and Braddock Street United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer with Blue Ridge Hospice and the Winchester Medical Center. Mrs. Ricketts enjoyed traveling with her husband, first all over the world while he was in the US Navy, then later on Schrock Bus Tours, traveling all around the United States and Canada. She especially enjoyed trips to Florida in the winter.
She married George D. Ricketts, Jr. on April 12, 1952, in Winchester, Virginia at Braddock Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving with her husband are her sons, John E. Ricketts, Carlton D. Ricketts and his wife, Jan; grandchildren, Marisa W. Lee and husband, Jeff, Mike R. Whitacre, Jeff M. Whitacre, Alizabeth C. Ricketts, Kyle B. Ricketts, Meredith P. Ricketts; great grandchildren, Iris S. and William H. Lee.
Her sister, Betty Eckman and brother, Eddie Manuel, preceded her in death.
Jean’s family would like to thank all the caregiver who provided the love and support for their mother over the past few years.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Dr. Mary Ricketts officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
