Janice Lynn Overbaugh, 56, of Cross Lanes, WV, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, at Thomas Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV, following a long and courageous battle with illness.
Born in 1969 in Newport News, VA, Janice was the daughter of Terry Cleaton Hudson and Dorothy Jane Brinkley Hudson. On December 3, 1994, she married her devoted husband, James Overbaugh Jr., beginning a journey of over 31 years built on love and shared memories.
Janice was a woman of quiet passions and a creative spirit. She was an avid gardener and a talented seamstress, but she was perhaps most at home within the pages of a book. A lifelong reader, she held a special affection for The Lord of the Rings, finding inspiration in its themes of friendship, perseverance, and the beauty of the journey—a reflection of the strength she showed throughout her own life.
Her greatest pride and joy were her family. She was a deeply loving mother to her son, Zachary Hudson Overbaugh of Cross Lanes. She is also survived by her stepsisters, Ellie Honour-Shoemaker (Winchester, VA) and Sharon Branam (Derry, NH); her stepbrother, Wayne Hudson (Danville, VA); and a beloved extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Interment will be private.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Zion Baptist Church. 111 Zion Church Road, Front Royal VA.
Janice lived her life with grace and a quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to bloom in the hearts of her family. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
