Janice Lynn Gaines, 61, of Frederick County, Virginia went to be with her Lord Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Ms. Gaines was born in 1955 in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Dorothy J. Thorne and the late George H. Thorne. She graduated from Suitland High School, in Maryland. Janice was a veteran of the United States Navy where she served on the USS Land, USS Forrestal, and USS Lexington. She retired as a photographer after twenty years of dedicated service with the United States Navy. Janice will always be remembered as a loving daughter and friend to so many. She was always known to be caring, generous, and compassionate to those who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed especially by her faithful dog Lexie.
Surviving is her mother, Dorothy J. Thorne; two aunts, Margaret Viehman of Winchester, Virginia, Judith Draheim and her husband, Al of Huntingtown, Maryland; two uncles, William Misenheimer and his wife, Alma of Winchester, Virginia, James Misenheimer and his wife, Sharon of Olney, Maryland as well as numerous cousins, extended family members and close friends.
In addition to her father Janice was preceded in death by one aunt, Frances Sanford, one uncle, Robert Misenheimer and one cousin, David Detamore.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Scott Orndorff officiating. Military Honors will be afforded by V.F.W. Post 2123.
