Janice K. Rhodes, of Berryville, passed away on June 1, 2023.
She was born Janice Lee Kearnes on June 16, 1932 to Campbell and Bessie Kearnes. She grew up as the proud daughter of a naval family moving all over the state of Virginia.
After graduating from Aldie High School, she went to Garfield Memorial Hospital Training School for Nurses where she became, what would be her life’s work: a Registered Nurse. She was incredibly valued and deeply missed upon retirement from Loudoun Hospital, formerly Leesburg Hospital.
She was a member of Duncan Memorial Church. She took great pride in her Christianity and made some of the best friends of her life through her faith. She loved crafts, especially knitting and crocheting, often making baby blankets and sweaters for friends and family or her church’s bazaar.
Being Memaw and MeMe, as she was lovingly referred to, was something she was born to do. From weekly cards to “a little something special just because”, she never let the chance to tell her grandchildren or great-grandchildren how much she loved them.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Campbell and Bessie Kearnes, sister Patsy Rosenberger and brother Gerald Kearnes,
She leaves behind her son Glenn Rhodes(Paula), her daughter Gail Altman(Myron), grandchildren Kristie Combs(Darin), Rachel Grzech(Jacob), Sarah, Stephen and Stephanie Rhodes, and great-grandchildren Trenton Hornbaker, Kate and Ella Colley(their Dad Mike) and Caleb Grzech.
Burial will be private at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Upperville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that you consider making a donation in Janice’s name to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
