Janet G. Miller

 

         Janet Greig (Barrow) Miller, 84, of Winchester, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Winchester Medical Center.

 

         Janet was born February 26 1931, in Ridgeway, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Walter and Mabel Barrow.  She was a graduate of Winchester Business College and was employed as a Secretary at Bryarly and Louthan Ins. Co. now known as Winchester Insurance Center, retiring after 36 years of service.    Mrs. Miller was a member of Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church for over 81 years.  She had the longest membership of her church.  The church was her life and she always got involved any way she could.   Mrs. Miller enjoyed traveling, especially to her home in Florida. 

 

         She married J. Ray Miller on November 18, 1951, in Hagerstown, Maryland, they enjoyed an especially close 63 years of marriage.

 

         Surviving with her husband is her daughter, Alice VanMeter; grandchildren, Jim Lonas and Judy Grim; great grandchildren, Ryan Lonas and Joshua Lonas; many loving nieces, nephews, and her entire church family including her exceptional friend of many years Elaine Getts.

 

         Her daughter, Betty Grim; sisters, Mildred, Hilda, Margaret and Dorothy and brothers, Harry and Strother, preceded her in death.

 

         Janet’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to all of those special people who were there for them and cared for her during this time.  Especially Pastor Gary, Dr. Childress, Dr. Abraham and all those who stopped to visit and share their love and care.

 

         The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 5:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel and again on Tuesday, prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 AM, at Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church.

 

         A funeral will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church, Bunker Hill, West Virginia, with Pastor Dawn Reidy and Pastor Gary Gourley officiating.  Interment will be in Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bunker Hill, West Virginia.

 

         Casket bearers will be Ryan and Joshua Lonas.  Pallbearers will be Jim Lonas, George Davis, Jim Rhodes, Charles Miller, Teddy Shiley and Robert Masters.  Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Funck, Ronnie Masters, Nay Barrow, Charles Jobe, Danny Miller, Denny Place, Gary Siebert, Les Brannon, and Charles Miller.

 

         Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Janet to the Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church/Ridgeway Church Hall, c/o Judy James, P.O. Box 354, Bunker Hill, West Virginia, 25413.

My thoughts and prayers are going out to you and your family, Ray. I will miss Janet tremendously. She was always there for me with a hug while calling me Dear or Sweetie. One Sunday, in particular, I came into the church crying. Janet just held her arms out to me, no questions asked. She held me in the best hug and made me feel better instantly.
