James William “Bill” Murphy, 60, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Murphy was born in 1955, in Moultrie, Georgia, the son of James O. Murphy and the late Sara L. Murphy. He was a graduate of James Wood High School, Class of 1973 and a Veteran having served in the United States Air Force at the end of the Vietnam War from July 1973 – April 1977. Mr. Murphy was a retired mechanic with National Fruit in Winchester, later working as a service technician with Miller Honda in Winchester.
His passion for auto mechanics led him to building his own cars, his favorite being a 1971 Nova. He enjoyed making good BBQ, his dogs, cruises with his wife and family, and going to the beach. Mr. Murphy liked to golf and anything sports related – especially NASCAR and drag racing.
He married Darlene Dorsey on August 9, 1986, in Winchester.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Kristina Murphy Smith (James) of Winchester, Ashley Murphy Herndon (Charles “Chase”) of Inwood, West Virginia; grandchildren, Makaela Newcome, Tucker Smith, Noah Smith and one on the way; his sister, Karen Murphy Ritter (Gregory) of Winchester; brothers, Timothy Page Murphy (Sonya) of Clear Brook, Grant Edward Murphy (Shiela) of Stephenson; his father, James O. Murphy of Tifton, Georgia; four nieces and two nephews; and Khloe, his beloved Doberman.
Private services will be held at a later date.
