James Stukel, 89, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at his home surrounded by family.
Mr. Stukel was born in 1927 in Calumet, Michigan, the son of the late John and Mary Stukel. He graduated from Michigan Tech University earning a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. After a long and rewarding career he retired from U.S. Silica. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus for 68 years and American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers. Mr. Stukel was a veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII.
Mr. Stukel married Shirley Mae Lewis on June 19, 1948 in Calumet, Michigan.
Surviving with his wife are daughters, Mary E. Dougherty (Michael) of Plymouth, Minnesota, Patricia J. Rassi (Gregory) of Morton, Illinois, and Sarah A. Kish of Winchester, Virginia; son, James L. Stukel (Eileen) of Pierre, South Dakota; grandchildren, Erin Dougherty, James and Elizabeth Rassi, Megan, Patrick, and Emily Kish.
Mr. Stukel was preceded in death by son-in-law, Dennis Kish, granddaughter, Megan Dougherty, sister, Mary Cocking, and brothers, Joseph, August, and Paul Stukel.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Monday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Interment will be private.
